The short version
We built Roadster Now to collect as little about you as possible. Here’s the summary; the full details follow.
We collect very little
Your email address (only if you subscribe or write to us) and the standard technical data a web server logs.
We don’t sell your data
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
No tracking without consent
Optional analytics or advertising tools load only if you opt in, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals.
You’re in control
Ask to access, correct or delete your data, or opt out, at [email protected].
Who we are
Roadster Now (“Roadster Now,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent online publication about roadsters and open two-seat sports cars, available at roadster-now.us (the “Site”). We are the business responsible for the personal information described in this Privacy Policy.
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to [email protected].
Scope of this policy
This policy applies to personal information we collect through the Site, our email newsletter (“The Sunday Drive”) and any correspondence you send us. It does not apply to third-party websites, services or apps that we link to, which are governed by their own privacy policies.
“Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to or could reasonably be linked to you or your household.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address, your first name if you choose to provide it, and a record of your consent (date, time and the wording you agreed to).
- Correspondence: your name, email address and anything you include when you email us.
- Privacy requests: the information you provide when you make a request under this policy, and the information we need to verify it.
Information collected automatically
- Server log data: when you visit the Site, our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the page you requested, the referring URL, and the date and time of the request. We use this to deliver the Site, keep it secure and fix problems.
- Browser storage: the Site saves your privacy choices and, if you use it, your progress on the pre-purchase checklist in your browser’s local storage. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us. See our Cookie Policy.
- Analytics: only if you opt in, and only if we use an analytics provider. No analytics tools are active on the Site as of the date of this policy. Any provider we add will be listed in our Cookie Policy before it is enabled.
Information from other sources
If you subscribe to our newsletter, our email service provider may tell us whether messages were delivered, bounced or led to an unsubscribe, and — where enabled — whether emails were opened or links were clicked.
Information we do not collect
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, financial account details, precise geolocation, health information or biometric data. The Roadster Finder quiz and the “top-down weather” tool run entirely in your browser; your answers are never sent to us.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- send you the newsletter you asked for and manage your subscription;
- reply to your questions, feedback and requests;
- operate, maintain, secure and troubleshoot the Site, including detecting and preventing abuse;
- understand, in aggregate, which content is useful — only where you have consented to analytics;
- comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use and protect our rights and the rights of others.
We do not use personal information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Legal bases for visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
The Site is intended for a US audience, but if data-protection laws such as the GDPR apply to you, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for the newsletter and any optional analytics or advertising technologies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — to operate and secure the Site and respond to your messages.
- Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.
You may have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal information, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
How we disclose information
We disclose personal information only in these situations:
- Service providers: companies that host the Site, deliver our emails and — if enabled with your consent — provide analytics. They may use personal information only to perform services for us and are contractually required to protect it.
- Legal and safety reasons: when required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Roadster Now, our readers or others.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of our business, subject to this policy.
- With your consent or at your direction.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California and other state laws. We have not done so in the preceding 12 months.
Your choices
- Newsletter: every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email [email protected].
- Privacy preferences: change your choices at any time with the control in the footer of every page.
- Global Privacy Control (GPC): if your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising, for that browser.
- Do Not Track: because there is no common industry standard for interpreting “Do Not Track” signals, we do not respond to them. We do honor GPC as described above.
- Browser controls: you can clear or block local storage and cookies in your browser settings. Some features, such as remembering your privacy choices, will then stop working.
Your US state privacy rights
Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws may have the following rights. Some of these laws apply only to businesses above certain size thresholds; we choose to honor these rights for all US residents.
- Right to know / access the personal information we hold about you, including the categories, sources, purposes and recipients.
- Right to delete personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to data portability — a copy of your information in a portable, commonly used format.
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling.
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not deny you service, charge you a different price or provide a different quality of service because you exercised your rights.
How to make a request
Use the request form on our Your Privacy Choices page or email [email protected]. Please tell us which right you want to exercise and your state of residence.
Verification
To protect your information, we verify requests by matching details you provide with information we already hold — usually by confirming control of the email address associated with your request. We will not ask for more information than necessary and will use it only for verification.
Authorized agents
You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may require the agent to provide your signed permission and may ask you to verify your identity directly with us, unless the agent holds a valid power of attorney.
Response timing
We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If we need more time, we may extend this period by up to 45 additional days, and we will tell you why.
Appeals
If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the word “Appeal” or by emailing [email protected]. We will respond to appeals within the time required by your state’s law (generally 45 to 60 days). If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
Additional information for California residents
This section supplements the rest of this policy and is provided under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA”). In the preceding 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information:
| Category | Examples | Source | Business purpose | Disclosed to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Email address, first name, IP address | You; your device | Newsletter, replies, security | Hosting and email service providers |
| Internet or network activity | Pages requested, browser type, referring URL | Your device | Operating and securing the Site; analytics with consent | Hosting provider; analytics provider if enabled |
| Approximate geolocation | City or region inferred from IP address (not precise location) | Your device | Security and fraud prevention | Hosting provider |
We do not collect sensitive personal information, commercial or financial information, biometric information, professional or employment information, education information, or inferences used to create a profile about you. See How long we keep information for retention periods.
- No sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, including that of consumers under 16 years of age.
- No financial incentives. We do not offer financial incentives in exchange for personal information.
- Shine the Light. Under California Civil Code § 1798.83 you may request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes. We do not make such disclosures.
Nevada residents
We do not sell “covered information” as defined in Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 603A. You may still submit an opt-out request to [email protected], and we will record it.
Children’s privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
How long we keep information
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe. After that, we keep only your email address on a suppression list so we don’t email you again.
- Correspondence: up to 24 months after our conversation ends, unless we need it longer to resolve a dispute or meet a legal obligation.
- Privacy request records: 24 months, as required by law.
- Server logs: generally no longer than 90 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident.
- Browser storage: on your device until you clear it. Your stored privacy choice expires after 12 months, after which we ask again.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we hold, including encrypted HTTPS connections across the Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
International visitors
The Site is operated from the United States and intended for visitors in the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Third-party links
The Site links to other websites, such as official road-condition and park pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will provide a prominent notice on the Site or email subscribers before the changes take effect.
